Sarah King and Mary Lockwood Runners up!

The winners of the Surrey Care Awards 2011 were announced at a gala ceremony held at Epsom Downs Racecourse on Friday 18 November.

Organised by Surrey Care Association, the Surrey Care Awards are the county’s ‘Oscars’ for care workers. The Awards recognise the hard work and dedication of people working in a wide variety of jobs in adult social care.

Over 300 local care practitioners attended the high profile Awards ceremony. The Awards were presented by TV personality and founder of the Orpheus Centre Richard Stilgoe OBE who delighted the audience with one of his own very funny poems about care homes. The guest of honour was the Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Surrey Corinna, Lady Hamilton of Dalzell and Master of Ceremonies for the evening was BBC Surrey presenter Sylvie Blackmore.

Service Manager – Sarah King and Titleworth 121 Carer Mary Lockwood attended the Awards Ceremony where they were both finalists for awards recognising their very special contribution to the service they provide to clients.

Sarah’s nomination as Domiciliary Care Manager of the Year recognised her outstanding commitment to ensuring that her staff team all go out of their way to ensure a safe and highly professional service to clients. Mary’s nomination as having gone the ‘extra mile’ to provide services above and beyond the normal expectation for clients.

Joined by Steve Winter, Director of Operations at Titleworth, everyone who attended had a very enjoyable evening where Sarah and Mary’s excellent performances were recognised by the Deputy Lord Lieutenant for Surrey.

Sarah commented:” I felt really proud to have been there and  been shortlisted. It was lovely to see the care profession recognised and support from each organisation. It makes you feel generally appreciated and gives you a sense of achievement.”

Mary commented:” It was a very nice evening.  It is heart warming to see so many carers recognised for the good work that they do, especially with the current bad press.  I would like to say a big thank you to the company, service users, and staff that took the time to nominate me, the recognition from others meant more to me than anything.”
